Lumbering Photographs Collection, 1867,1951.

Collection of 69 negatives and prints rumored to have been taken by the Goodridge Brothers of Saginaw (Mich.). Most of the images are of lumbering in Michigan. There is also a poor quality photograph of the Bancroft House's 1867 menu. The Bancroft was a famous Clare (Mich.) hotel. Also included in the collection is a folder of biographical information on the Goodridge Brothers and correspondence between Rolland Maybee and Mrs. Ethel Goodridge Adams, a niece of the photography brothers.

William (b. 1805) and Wallace (d. 1922) Goodridge were a 19th-early 20th century Saginaw (Mich.) African American brother photography team. The Clarke Historical Library also has Goodridge Brothers stereographs of Saginaw, logging, and Michigan lakes, as well as a published catalog of an exhibit and art souvenirs on the brothers and their photographs. Rolland Harper Maybee was born on January 6, 1901 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Harper C. Maybee (1876-1954) and Blanche Maybee (1879-1970). Maybee had three brothers: Allen, Harper Jr., and Eugene Maybee. Rolland attended high school in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He began his college education at Western Michigan University before attending Columbia University, New York for his A.B., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in history.
